Purpose:
To give the student a comprehension of
the construction and use of audio systems.
Contents:
PA technique: microphone recording techniques,
dummy-head technique, cables, grounding,
coupling, balancing, phantom power, equalisers, effect modules, noise gates,
compressors, expanders, pitch shift, deessers
and delay systems.
Loudspeaker: crossover filters, amplifier and
loudspeaker, loudspeaker and room.
Studio techniques: mixing desks, storage media, disk
editing, emphasising, AD/DA
conversion, audio standards, musical synthesis, acoustical
debugging/editing (aliasing, cut
and paste,
saturation, overflow etc.) and various
types of distortion.
Multi-channel reproduction of sound: stereo and
binaural technique, crosstalk cancellation,
and multi-channel standards and sound field synthesis.
Prerequisites:
Fundamentals of Acoustics, Acoustical
Transducers and Digital Audio. Basics
in analogue
and digital signal processing.
